City guide Arnhem: the best hotspots and things to do

Why always travel to big cities if smaller ones also have a lot to offer. Arnhem was voted for best city center in the Netherlands for a few years in a row. This city has countless museums, one of the most beautiful parks in Europe, and many unique boutiques. The best hotspots and things to do in Arnhem.

Shop unique pieces for your interior or wardrobe

Arnhem is creative. You will find both the Fashion Academy and Artez here and you will immediately notice this in the shops. Whether you are looking for plants for your living room, a unique vintage item, a beautiful piece of jewelry, or a nice gift: Arnhem has it all. We have listed some of the best shops in Arnhem.

Plant & Meer
Here you will find the most beautiful flowers, plants, and pots. Lovely to stroll around and get inspiration for your home or garden.

HELLO Conceptstore
HELLO is an urban jungle. Here you will find the most beautiful plants, but also nice vintage items, jewelry and some clothing

Bos & Heij
Bos & Heij is a creative concept store. They sell unique cards and prints, jewelry, porcelain and ceramics, and original home accessories. They only sell products from independent designers and illustrators so you can find treasures that can’t be found on every street corner.

Lost in Wanderland
One of my favorite stores in Arnhem. A nice mix of clothing, jewelry, and accessories. Mostly from small labels and Dutch designers.

Colofon
In a short time, this store has grown into a complete bookstore. At this concept store, you will find the best new and second-hand books, you can relax and drink a cup of coffee in their cafe and even all their furniture is for sale.

Vintage shopping
Arnhem is full of nice vintage shops. At Froufrou’s you will find the coolest vintage items for your wardrobe or interior. If you are looking for vintage furniture you should visit Mippies. Here you will find furniture, antiques, and art from the 50s, 60s, and 70s. At Jovel Vintage you will find good quality vintage clothing. Unique is the Reshare Store, a second-hand clothing store of the ‘Leger des Heils’. At Facribs and More, you find unique pieces of clothing, bags, and shoes. And the best of all, you pay per kilo.

Stroll around the Rijnkade

You can walk along the Rhine. The Rijnkade starts at the Nieuwe Kade and extends to the Nelson Mandela Bridge. Here you will find several cozy terraces overlooking the Rhine. For example, sit back in a lounge chair at Rose’s Next Door.

Explore the center and other neighborhoods

Arnhem is not that big. You can easily walk from one neighborhood to another. And every district has its own character. The center of Arnhem is car-free. Stroll through the center and discover the mix of old and new buildings, churches, art, and culture. The Spijkerkwartier is the most vibrant area of Arnhem and is known for its diversity. Steenstraat in particular is nice to walk through. Klarendal, also called Modekwartier, is a real working-class neighborhood. Here you will find various shops and boutiques, and restaurants. Grab lunch at Suhar Hill between the locals.

Discover the green part of Arnhem

Arnhem is located in the middle of a spectacular green area. Within a few kilometers, you enter the Veluwe where you can stroll around in nature for a couple of hours. The Sonsbeekpark is located close to the center of Arnhem and is Perhaps one of the most beautiful parks in Europe. Here you can enjoy hiking. Spread throughout the park you will find several restaurants with terraces where you can look out over the city. Events are also regularly organized. Tip: there is paid parking around the park, but in the Van Pallandtstraat you can park for free for two hours and even all day on Sunday.

Food, food, food

Arnhem is full of nice restaurants, coffee shops and terraces. Some of my favorites.

Hemels
Here you eat the tastiest homemade cakes with a good cup of coffee. You can sit outside in one of the nicest streets in Arnhem.

Arneym
This restaurant serves various cold and warm dishes to share. And they were all delicious.

Cafe Babo
Cafe Babo is located in a special Jugendstil building. This place is best known for its coffee. The coffee is always made from their own beans, which are roasted every few weeks in their own coffee roaster.

Rawsome
The name says it all, here you will find natural and unprocessed food. Various juices, salads, smoothies and snacks that are heated up to 42 ºC so that the healthy substances are preserved.

Caspar
Here you can sit outside on a quiet terrace among the trees. Caspar is the restaurant of Hotel Modez. In this design hotel, all rooms are unique.

Foodhall
Foodhall Arnhem is located on the Rijnkade in Arnhem Noord. Here you will find 13 different world cuisines in one place. All food is prepared fresh in front of you.
